Torvy leads the squad

This year, Torvy has joined the environmental squad at school, and was recently made a team leader. These kids work together with the school groundsman to improve the environment at the school. From picking up litter to cutting back brambles, from weeding and planting flowerbeds to breaking down and disposing of old equipment. The difference they have made to the school grounds even made it into the local paper. He's very proud of his achievements and has stuck with it when many of the original members dropped out because it was such hard work.

Looks like we have a budding environmentalist in the family!

The cricket season

We recently took a little jaunt to our local sports and social club. This is situated conveniently close to our house. They have a colts' cricket team, which Björn is keen to join. They also have Sunday matches, where they like to allow the 14+ year old boys to have the opportunity to play a few games for the men's team. There is event he chance that John might have a game or two. It has long been a dream of his to play in a village cricket team together with his sons. Unfortunately for that dream, the younger son is not really interested in cricket. He's not the most sporty boy, our Torvy, but that's okay - he has other interests, which I will post about next.

Another milestone...

Yesterday, I was giving Björn a hug when he suddenly blurted, "I'm taller than you!" It's been a close thing for some time now, so we decided to check and, sure enough - he is taller than me. Only by about half a centimetre, but he is, indeed, officially the second tallest member of the family.

He has less than an inch to go before he overtakes John, and his hands and feet are both bigger, so it should only be a matter of time (and, the way things are going, not too much of that, either!) .

Torvy is now tall enough that, when we stand toe to toe, I can kiss his forehead without tilting my head. It seems like only yesterday that I was saying that about Björn.

Not such good news from Milton Keynes

Follow this link to see the news about the accident in MK today - scaffolding collapsed on a hotel building site. This happened no more than a mile from our house - we could see the emergency helicopters above the scene. It's a miracle their weren't more casualties when you see the extent of the damage.

A fairytale party

Björn was invited to a friend's party last night, and everyone had to dress as characters from fairytales. Björn was planning to go as a woodcutter type character of the sort from Red Riding Hood or a la Jack when he chopped down the beanstalk.

We went to a costume hire store and they had several suitable outfits. He tried on a few and settled on this one.

They had an axe as well, which was great. The trousers ended a few inches above the ankle. I suggested that he wear long socks with heavy workman style boots (his father's Cats for example). Most appropriate for a woodcutter. Then Björn spotted The Boots. Oh dear. They were more suited to a pirate than a woodcutter, so I suggested he go as one of those instead, but he wanted that axe. In the end, his ensemble was a bit weird, but he looked good, as you can see, and he won the prize for best costume.
