Mallorca/Majorca - it´s all the same thing!
We´re on holiday in Majorca at the moment. Up to now, we´ve used John´s mobile phnone as a modem, which is very expensive, so I haven´t been able to post about the fact that we´re here. Now today, I´m in an internet cafe at the excellent rate of 1 euro (can´t find the right key for the symbol) per 30 mins, and of course, I can´t upload the pictures! Rats.
Anyway - our hotel room looks straight out to sea, which is turquoise. The sun shone the first few days, although it wasn´t very hot. Today it´s raining, so it´s time for some alternative activities. We have eaten the most delicious food.
We have found the warnings true that the English (or those thought to be English) get short shrift from the locals. I even got accused of shoplifting in one place. At least, I think that´s what they were saying! The shopkeepers and service staff al speak pretty good German and German tourists abound. There are even German TV channels in the hotel, but no English. We have taken to speaking to each other in a mixture of Swedish and Afrikaans. When we are asked if we are English or German, we say "Neither, but we can speak English." Instant change. Last night, the restaurateur served Björn a sangria, although he is underage (we were present) simply because he expressed an interest in them. Then he produced free liqueurs for the adults and some free non-alcoholic beverage for the kids, and gave us a bottle of wine as a gift when we left, calling us a "lovely family".
Torvy has spent hours in the pool each day - he is in his element if he can just get to swim, that lad! Björn has watched hours of curling and similarly breath-taking sports (yawn) on telly. We have watched movies in Spanish and German. Ri-ight. We have drunk cocktails. We have walked along the beach. I have been to the gym and for a run.
We plan to set out on some more adventurous forays, but that can wait... we´re not on a schedule!
Having said that, my time is almost up on the internet connection, so best wishes all round. ¡Hasta luego!
